visit the main train station to get our train passes validated and have a group

dinner we will take the S-Bahn from Alexanderplatz Station to the Hauptbahnhof
(main train station) and visit the DB office to get our train passes validated.
You will need to bring your PASSPORT. We
can then take the S-Bahn back or take a pleasant walk along the Spree river
back to Alexanderplatz area and back to the Hostel.
NOTE:
Monday night needs to be a mellow night
as we are up early and off to Wolfsburg / Volkswagen World Headquarters the
next day and we need to be in our best possible shape for that visit.

Visit
Wolfsburg production plant, Branding lecture by Dr. Stefan Hoernemann and visit
Autostadt. Experience German rail system
in traveling Berlin to Potsdam and back. The production plant tour and the
branding lecture are not things typical visitors to VW could experience. Group

dinner at conclusion.

Friday, May 6: Berlin Walking Tour / Neighborhoods
Guided
walking tour of East Berlin neighborhoods witnessing and discussing the
challenges of economic recovery and gentrification. This experience highlights the differences in
German versus US approaches to economic development and city / neighborhood governance.

Saturday, May 7: Reichstag Tour
A
free day to individually explore Berlin or participate in an optional history
tour in Potsdam. Evening visit to German specialties restaurant and a guided
tour of the Reichstag (Germany’s Capital building).

from both Uni Paderborn and WMU (about 40 students total). The remainder of the course is May 17-24.

Competition

cross-university experience between Uni Paderborn students and WMU students
involves lectures by Dr. Andreas Eggert (UP) on customer value and Dr. James
Eckert (WMU) on presentation techniques and involves cross-university student
teams using a case-based approach to develop marketing plans and presenting
those plans to the faculty. The day
concludes with a group celebration dinner where top performers are announced.

Friday, May 13: Economic Drivers of the Rhein Region
We
will have a city tour and discuss the unique economic role that Bacharach
played over the years. However the current
economic environment is dominated by wine and tourism (and wine tourism!). We will learn more about the wine production,
marketing, and its connection to the history and future of the Rhein region from
Cecelia Jost, owner of Toni Jost Vineyards.

Düsseldorf

will travel from Bacharach to Düsseldorf and spend the night there. Düsseldorf has one of the region’s best
shopping district and is home to an energetic “Altstadt” or “old city”
district. When we wake on Sunday
morning, teams will be created and the annual scavenger hunt will commence and
will finish in Köln.

Travel Plan
Dr.
Zondag will accompany a group up to Düsseldorf earlier than the train times
below. This would be for those who would
prefer the bigger city shopping and recreation over the quiet of Bacharach. Your rooms won’t be ready but you can store
your luggage at the hotel and explore Düsseldorf. The trains for this are: depart Bacharach @ 10:28, arrive Koblenz @ 11:08. Briskly change to RE 10516 departing Koblenz
@ 11:16 and arriving in Duesseldorf at 13:01.
The change in Koblenz should occur on the same platform (2 South to 2
North), so that should make the 8 minute transfer time work.

Sunday, May 15: Köln (Cologne in English)
You
and your scavenger hunt team will travel to Köln and visit the Kölner Dom
(Cologne Cathedral) and a few other key sites in the area and will need to find
the hotel as well as do a video interview with some locals. The day will conclude with presentations and
dinner at a Kölsch brewery. Kölsch is
both the local beer and local dialect!

most often with a stop and train change in Hamm(westf). We will determine the
exact train(s) closer to the actual day.
In the past people have taken different trains which is fine as long as
everyone is in Paderborn by 18:00.

May 17 – 20th and
May 23-24:: Global Negotiation Course at Uni Paderborn
The
Global Negotiation course will continue with lectures, case experiences, team
presentations and other interactive experiences. The course will be an intense time and energy
commitment but will be unique in that you will be side-by-side with students
from Uni Paderborn.
Each day is scheduled
9:00am – 4:00pm on campus. You will need to get up and too campus on
your own and be in class ready to go at 9:00 each day. You will have a bus pass you can use for
getting to campus. In the past students
have exited the hotel about 8:00 and had breakfast at the Cafette on campus
before class.
May 20 – 22: Weekend
Fun in Hamburg
Friday morning: You
need to be checked out BEFORE leaving for campus in morning. We will be storing luggage in Dr. Eckert’s
room for the weekend. You should bring
your backpack, not full luggage tor Hamburg.
You might want to pack your stuff for Hamburg in a plastic bag and then
when we return from class you can pack your backpack quickly so we can get
going to Hamburg!
